Nigerian Men Are Marrying All Our Daughters: Kenyan President Cries Out
by Chinazor Ikedimma on Jun 13, 2025
It was supposed to be a routine public engagement at the wedding of his friend’s daughter until Kenyan President William Ruto decided to speak his truth. With a smirk on his face and laughter in his voice, the president jokingly lamented what some Kenyan men might secretly be thinking: “Nigerian men are marrying all our daughters!” And just like that, Africa’s social media went into a frenzy. In his words: “My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one (referring to his friend’s daughter) is again marrying a Nigerian. And our guys around, I don’t know… Are you too slow? We need to balance this scale. At this stage, we’ll have a brain drain from Kenya! I think there’s something between Kenya and Nigeria, we should pick it up further.
President Ruto didn’t stop there. He playfully teased Nigerian guests at the wedding, especially the groom. According to him, the groom had “arm-twisted” his friend into accepting extravagant gifts in exchange for his daughter’s hand in marriage. “Nigerians are very complicated people,” Ruto joked. “You intimidated him into accepting all this. That’s why I insisted on coming. Although my diary was full, I wanted to see this Nigerian who had come to harass my friend. But I was told you’ve been well-behaved since this morning.”
Beneath the laughter, Ruto may have unintentionally opened the door to a broader cultural conversation: Why are Nigerian men considered so desirable across Africa?
Nigerian men are often admired by foreign women for a mix of cultural, personal, and social reasons. Their confidence is magnetic, they approach love boldly and with flair, often speaking in romantic language that feels straight out of a movie. They also take pride in their appearance, dressing sharply and stylishly, whether in traditional attire or modern fashion. But beyond the surface, many are deeply ambitious and family-oriented, offering a sense of stability paired with passion. Thanks to Nollywood, Afrobeats, and their global presence, Nigerian men also carry a cultural swagger that resonates far beyond their borders, making them stand out as charismatic and compelling partners.
President Ruto’s playful jab is, in essence, a call for Kenyan men to step up their game not just in matters of love, but in self-presentation, ambition, and confidence. But let’s be real: it’s not a competition. African love is thriving across borders, and if Nigerian men are marrying Kenyan women, perhaps it’s a sign of unity, connection, and good vibes all around. Still, if you’re a Kenyan man reading this, the next time you spot a Nigerian brother at a party, whisper a quiet prayer, “Not my sister today, bro. Please.”
One thing is clear, Nigerian men are not slowing down anytime soon. Ladies, guard your hearts—or don’t. After all, love is love.
